A dual-qualified lawyer (South Africa; Hong Kong), Marthinus specialises in dispute resolution. With a background in commercial litigation, Marthinus has extensive experience in insolvency and restructuring, general commercial disputes, trusts and tax.

Marthinus graduated with a BA LLB from Stellenbosch University, South Africa. He subsequently obtained an LLM in Tax Law from the University of Cape Town, South Africa.

After completing his training contract and one year as a litigation associate at a reputable Cape Town law firm, Marthinus moved to Hong Kong in 2019 to work as in-house legal counsel at a financial services firm. Marthinus was admitted as a Hong Kong solicitor upon passing the 2021 Overseas Lawyers Qualification Exams. Prior to joining JC Legal, Marthinus spent a year as an associate at one of Hong Kong’s leading contentious insolvency teams.

Registered Foreign Lawyer (PRC)

With around 12 years of practising experience in PRC, Sophie Liu specialises in cross-border matrimonial law and succession between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. With experience in both contentious and non-contentious matters, she is adept at quickly grasping key facts and formulating effective solutions. Her expertise includes family wealth planning, preservation and succession, which involves analysing family conditions and setting up various instruments such as familial agreements, wills and living wills, voluntary guardianship, family foundations and trusts, as well as family corporate governance structures.

Apart from private client matters, Sophie is well versed in cross-border civil and commercial law as well as dispute resolution. She has extensively advised leading companies in Europe and Asia on foreign investment, corporate governance and regulatory compliance in PRC.

Based in Leeds, Sarah Jane Tasteyre currently oversees JC Legal’s UK office, set up to meet the demands of an increasingly international region, with a focus on building professional networks with Asia, in particular Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Qualified in France in 2003, Sarah Jane has established herself as a reputable practitioner in cross-border family law, inheritance and probate between Hong Kong, France and the UK since 2015. She is an affiliate member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and a member of Resolution in the UK, a community of family justice professionals who work with families and individuals to resolve issues in a constructive way.

With her global vision of family protection, Sarah Jane regularly works with family lawyers in Asia and Europe, advising private clients on complicated matrimonial issues and estate planning. Her extensive work experience in Hong Kong and in the UK brought her a good understanding of common law.

Sarah Jane understand the needs of her clients and the misconceptions they may have of international law. She is skilled at adapting to every situation depending on the nationality, plans and resources of each client. She always seeks to find a solution to intricate situations.

Admitted as a solicitor in 2023, Amanda develops a broad practice in corporate and commercial, probate and matrimonial law. She has assisted tech startups and leading lifestyle brands in seed financing, leasing, intellectual property protection and other corporate matters. She also has experience in handling complex private client matters in relation to marital agreements, cross-border divorce and non-contentious probate.

Amanda graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) in 2018 and subsequently earned her Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) in 2019.

Amanda is native in English and fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin.


Admitted in Hong Kong in 2023, Hemans develops a broad practice in corporate and commercial matters and dispute resolution.

Prior to joining JC Legal, Hemans worked at a reputable Hong Kong law firm where she assisted multinational corporations in legal matters including civil and commercial litigation, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory compliance and commercial transactions.

Hemans received a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Hong Kong in 2020 and earned her Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) in 2021.

Hemans is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

Senior Paralegal

Lit Ying completed her degree in law in 2011 and obtained her Certificate in Legal Practice in 2012. She completed her pupillage and was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2013. She started her legal career in Raslan Long, Shen & Eow, a prominent corporate firm, as an associate in 2013 and became a partner in the same firm in her 5th year in practice. Lit Ying founded Thoo & Partners in 2020. In 2022, Lit Ying was awarded as Associate Fellow and Certified Professional Technology Specialist by the Industry 4.0 Entrepreneurs Association of Malaysia.

Throughout her practice, Lit Ying has represented her clients in various corporate and commercial matters, such as mergers and acquisitions, joint venture transactions, cross-border transactions, restructuring exercises, shareholders arrangements as well as advising on compliance and regulatory matters.

Lit Ying is well versed in English, Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese. She can also speak Cantonese and Hokkien.

Stephen completed his Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) at the University of Hong Kong in 2023 after obtaining his Juris Doctor (JD) degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has experience in handling civil and commercial litigation cases, and corporate matters. He has also delved into family law and non-contentious probate matters.

Stephen has also been proactive in engaging the community. He has been volunteering for an NGO assisting domestic workers pursue claims against their former employers, including unlawful dismissal and personal injuries. He is also part of a Filipino society seeking to educate and empower the Filipino youth in Hong Kong through various seminars and workshops.

Stephen is native in English and Tagalog. He is also fluent in Cantonese and conversational in Mandarin.
