With 15 years of practising experience in Malaysia and Hong Kong, Janice leads the broad practice of JC Legal in cross-border commercial law, dispute resolution and regulatory compliance. Well-connected with legal and corporate professionals in Greater China, ASEAN, UK and Europe, Janice advises extensively on cross-border matters, with a focus on transactional matters and commercial litigation. Her clients range from government agencies, listed companies, multinational licensed financial corporations, award-winning startups to trailblazers in fintech and crypto.

Janice is the mastermind behind the award-winning and widely popular Startup Steward Programme as well as Virtual Legal Clinic, empowering entrepreneurs with bespoke legal solutions. She is a frequent speaker at industry events and legal training with government institutions, chambers of commerce and the startup ecosystem.

Janice is fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Malay.

Consultant

Jodie Mak develops a broad practice in personal injury and corporate & commercial law. She has extensive experience in advising insurers or insured parties on matters of personal injury, employees’ compensation and product liability, including risk management and dispute resolution arising thereof in the High Court and District Court of Hong Kong. She joined JC Legal in 2018 after practising at reputable firms in Hong Kong and Australia.

Jodie is proficient in English and Cantonese, and also speaks Mandarin.

Consultant

Ms Pauline Chew specialises in commercial, civil litigation and arbitration. She is experienced in advising and acting for various corporate clients including banks, insurance companies, listed companies, major property developers as well as high-net-worth individual clients. Ms Chew has broad experience in conducting a wide range of cases including company/commercial litigation and matters, defamation, intellectual property litigation and matters, banking related litigation and matters, contentious wills and probate, personal injuries and insurance related cases, land related litigation and disputes, litigation and disputes relating to investment products, contractual disputes, matrimonial and criminal cases.

Ms Chew is fluent in Cantonese and English, and conversational in Putonghua.

Registered Foreign Lawyer (PRC)

With around 12 years of practising experience in PRC, Sophie Liu specialises in cross-border matrimonial law and succession between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. With experience in both contentious and non-contentious matters, she is adept at quickly grasping key facts and formulating effective solutions. Her expertise includes family wealth planning, preservation and succession, which involves analysing family conditions and setting up various instruments such as familial agreements, wills and living wills, voluntary guardianship, family foundations and trusts, as well as family corporate governance structures.

Apart from private client matters, Sophie is well versed in cross-border civil and commercial law as well as dispute resolution. She has extensively advised leading companies in Europe and Asia on foreign investment, corporate governance and regulatory compliance in PRC.

Sophie is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese, and speaks conversational English.

Registered Foreign Lawyer (France)

Based in Leeds, Sarah Jane Tasteyre currently oversees JC Legal’s UK office, set up to meet the demands of an increasingly international region, with a focus on building professional networks with Asia, in particular Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Qualified in France in 2003, Sarah Jane has established herself as a reputable practitioner in cross-border family law, inheritance and probate between Hong Kong, France and the UK since 2015. She is an affiliate member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and a member of Resolution in the UK, a community of family justice professionals who work with families and individuals to resolve issues in a constructive way.

With her global vision of family protection, Sarah Jane regularly works with family lawyers in Asia and Europe, advising private clients on complicated matrimonial issues and estate planning. Her extensive work experience in Hong Kong and in the UK brought her a good understanding of common law.

Sarah Jane understand the needs of her clients and the misconceptions they may have of international law. She is skilled at adapting to every situation depending on the nationality, plans and resources of each client. She always seeks to find a solution to intricate situations.

Sarah Jane currently publishes a weekly bilingual podcast in French and English titled #DIVORCE dealing with divorce, separation and well-being, with co-host Audrey Zeitoun, a divorce and relationship coach, and various guests each week.

Registered Foreign Lawyer (Malaysia)

Kate specialises in corporate, M&A and commercial transactions. She was admitted and enrolled as an Advocate and Solicitor in the High Court of Malaya (Malaysia) in January 2022 upon completion of her pupillage.

She graduated with an LL.B (Hons) from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom in 2019. She then completed her Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) with specialisation in Fraud Law and Company Law, and LLM in Company Law at City, University London.

Subsequently, she was called to the English Bar as a Barrister-at-Law in 2021 and is a member of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple.

Kate is native in English and Malay, and also speaks Cantonese, French and Mandarin.

Associate

Admitted as a solicitor in 2022, Yuki specialises in cross-border dispute resolution and transactional matters. She is well versed in civil and commercial litigation, with experience in handling complex disputes involving the jurisdictions of PRC, Australia and Malaysia.

Apart from contentious matters, Yuki has advised on mergers & acquisitions for cross-border land sale in Japan and joint ventures between subsidiaries of listed companies in Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Yuki graduated with the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws on the Dean’s List and obtained her Juris Doctor degree with Distinction from the City University of Hong Kong.

Yuki is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

Associate

Admitted as a solicitor in 2023, Amanda develops a broad practice in corporate and commercial, probate and matrimonial law. She has assisted tech startups and leading lifestyle brands in seed financing, leasing, intellectual property protection and other corporate matters. She also has experience in handling complex private client matters in relation to marital agreements, cross-border divorce and non-contentious probate.

Amanda graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) in 2018 and subsequently earned her Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) in 2019.

Amanda is native in English and fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin.

Yuly is a Chartered Secretary and Chartered Governance Professional with 8 years of professional experience advising on corporate governance. Yuly also possesses extensive experience in intellectual property and employment affairs. She helps renowned brands in luxury, FMCG, e-commerce, technology, education and social impact protect their trademarks and copyright in Hong Kong and worldwide. Highly proficient in employment compliance and best practices, she provides legal support in formulating employment agreements, handbooks and resolving employment disputes.
